Handknits For Kids
The postman brought me a nice surprise yesterday. Most of my pre ordered books have already arrived except for two that are not due just yet so when he gave me a book from Amazon I was a bit amazed. When I opened the package I found that it was a gift from my niece and her husband. As they live in London they can't just pop in to see if I am OK so they sent me a book. What a lovely thoughtful thing to do. I have put one half of the book on here today and will put the rest of it on tomorrow.
My crocheting is progressing slowly but at least I have made a bit of progress on it. I will have to do a bit of pattern altering as the wool that I am using is only a double knit and the wool for the Blue Curacao shawl is more of an aran thickness. I will have to work out some extra pattern rows into. I hope to have it finished for the weekend and then I can post both the shawls off to Debra in time for her birthday on the 21st.
The District Nurse is still calling every other day to look at my leg. It hasn't gone any worse but still showing no signs of healing yet. The good news is that the area looks pink and healthy so I am hoping that it will heal over soon. Last night I went to bed with a Tena lady pad bandaged on my leg as the night before all of my nightwear and the sheets were wet through as the dressing wasn't big enough to absorb the fluid. The District Nurse has given me a handful of bigger dressings so that I can change it a few times a day. She is calling again on Monday.
I didn't get a good night's sleep last night and so am a bit droopy today. I think that I will push on with the white shawl this afternoon (if I don't fall asleep) and try to get it a bit nearer to the finish line.
I was planning on being out and about by now but to be honest I don't even feel like going anywhere not even riding on Pearl. Maybe I will be a bit more motivated next week.

Having all that anesthesia in your body takes a while to work its way out. Don't get discouraged. What you are feeling is pretty normal, I think. I was pretty weary after my surgery for a good month. I think it's your body's way of keeping you down a bit too until you heal. Lots of energy is going into that process. By next week you'll be feeling more up to taking a ride on Pearl, I bet.
The wound will heal. all of a sudden it will dry up & heal.
Such a thoughtful gift from your neice. Sorry you are having such a tough time. Setbacks are so frustrating. I hope your wound heals soon. Love your shawl and I am sure your friend from the hospital will also. Take care.
It is so nice to get a lovely gift in the mail. I bet it made your day. Jan, try not to worry too much about feeling tired and not wanting to do anything. It is natures way of telling you that you have had a big operation, and that these things take time. The anesthectic is still hanging around, give it a few weeks (maybe only a few days) and you will be feeling a whole lot better. Take care. Love and Hugs from DownUnder
Such a cute crochet book Jan, bet that cheered you up a lot. Hope you feel a bit better each day and will soon be getting about again.
So sorry you're having such a rough go of it, Jan. I hope each day gets a little better for you and before you know it, you're back on Pearl!
What a sweet thing for your niece and her husband to do, and your shawl is going to be lovely!!
