Home Alone Again

Just as I wrote the title Home Alone Poppy walked back in through the patio doors. She thinks that she lives in both houses ;-)
The dogs were very good considering that they had never stayed overnight with me before. We were up bright and early as I am used to Buster and his weak bladder so I don't like to leave animals too long without a toilet break. I let the dogs out at 5.30am and then we all went back to sleep again.
Buddy is funny. He has a passion for shoes and slippers and so took pairs of my shoes and slippers out one by one and put them on the lawn. Julie told me today that they have to put all of their footwear out of his reach or they have to search the garden for where he has hidden their shoes. He doesn't chew or destroy anything he just likes people to chase him whilst he has a slipper in his mouth.
The only time that I had to raise my voice to them was at 5.30am when they went outside and decided to have a barking contest. I had to shout them back in so not sure which bit the neighbours will remember the most. Their barking or my shouting!
I spoke to my son last night and he knows someone who deals in motorised scooters so he is going to enquire what prices their scooters are and if they have any secondhand ones. He looked on E bay and said that there were loads for sale on there but I am very nervous of buying anything on the net unless it's wool or crochet books of course LOL
I picked up my crochet again today after the dogs had gone back home and am now past the armholes on the last front. I have the front band to crochet and then decide whether to alter the sleeves and make them longer. It's not so much the elbow length that is worrying me as much as the flared bell shaped edge. I will tack them in and try it on before I unravel the sleeves. I had 500 grams of the blue so I will have about 75 grams left once I crochet the bands. That should be enough to extend the sleeves if need be.
I got a nice surprise today. Julie my neighbour bought me a bottle of dark rum for looking after the dogs for her. I am not a big drinker but I do like a glass of rum and coke now and again. In fact I might just have to unscrew the bottle later tonight just to make sure that it tastes just right.
I had got the dates wrong for Buster. He is coming next weekend for a few days. He gets on well with the dogs from next door and doesn't mind if they pop in through the hedge to see me. Poppy has now gone home again. She just likes to pop in and out when it suits her.

A bit of dog minding

I had the pleasure of looking after Buddy this morning. Buddy is my neighbour Julie's dog so is quite used to me but he had never stayed at my house before. He was as good as gold and played quite happily for an hour or so. It felt nice to have a dog about the place again. He took over Buster's spot as sentinel and guardian of the street on the brown chair as he gazed out of the window.

My crocheting is continuing nicely. I now have two sleeves in the Pink Duster and am back to crocheting the body. This will take some time as the coat is almost a full length one.

Today I had a telephone interview with a reporter from Yours magazine about knitting. We spoke about the knitting clubs that I belong to. The Kings Arms Knitters and the Knitting Noras. She wanted to know a little about me and how I had found out about the knit clubs. I managed to get a quick plug in about the Naked Knitting Calendar and she wants to be kept updated as to our progress and when the calendar will be up for sale.

I have got my appointment for a Bone Density Scan for next Tuesday. I will be interested to know whether I have inherited my bone problems from my family or whether it is from accidental damage over the years.

I have been catching up with blogs and we knitters seem to be an unhealthy lot of late. Me with my bones and my racking cough, Ambermoggie with her excema rash, Jam and Jerusalem's OH and his asthma cough, Vicky's sore elbow and Lisa's sore hands. Is the knitting community falling to bits? Let's hope we all get well soon!

One inch of water inside my car!

My son was supposed to come today and cut down the holly tree so I thought I had better take all of my stuff out of the car as he was also going to take photos of it for e bay. It is a bit of an old banger but he said he could sell it in the repairs or spares category. I opened the car door and was horrified to find an inch or so of dirty brown sludgy water in the driver's foot well. The water was also in the back seat foot well. The car hadn't leaked when I was driving it so I don't know what has happened. I spooned most of the water out but as you can see from the photos it will be a while before the carpet dries out. I suppose with all the torrential rain we have had lately I shouldn't be surprised.

My son didn't arrive today due to the fact he went out on a night out last night and in the words from Rowan and Martin's Laugh In (for those of you old enough to remember that programme) like Uncle Al he had too much bad medicine last night! My son will never drink and drive not even the day after if he has had too many the night before which is very responsible of him. I just hope that this good weather holds and that he will come and cut down the tree later this week.

I tried a bit of gardening today on my front garden. It is very small so I thought I would be OK but I think I overdid things and the old back is aching. I saw Julie, my next door neighbour, with Buddy when she came back from his walk so I couldn't resist taking his photo. He is almost recovered from his snip op but still a bit on the quiet side until he saw the cat from across the road and almost went under a car trying to chase him. Neo the husky type wolf dog from across the road was outside his house as well. For some reason that dog really hates me. I risked a pat but he tried to bite me. I used to think it was because Buster and he hated each other so much but maybe it is just me that he hates.

I saw the photos that a friend of Julie had taken at her birthday party and the ones of me were quite good. I am not usually photogenic so I was quite surprised. I should have asked for copies of the photos or borrowed them so that I could scan them. Maybe the person who took them could e mail them to me I will pass my e mail address to Julie.

I didn't do much crochet last night and as what I am making is for a present I can't show it on here until it has been given. Just in case the intended recipient sees it on my blog first. I think that there will be a lot of secrecy on my blog from now until Christmas.

I had a startling e mail last night from a Knitty friend. She has just been diagnosed with inflammatory breast cancer and is about to start on a course of chemo, probably an operation to possibly remove the breast. I feel that everyone I know recently has been touched by cancer in some way. It really is the disease of the year for my circle of friends. We all know someone with cancer but I seem to know so many who are battling cancer or have had it in the past and I don't think I am alone in this.It touches so many lives. I feel so grateful that all of my brushes with cancer in the past have all turned out to be pre cancerous and have never developed. I thank God that I have been so lucky.
